Lightbow App Reviews

Presets confusing

Doesnt always work. Sometimes 1 bulb sometimes 2. Customizations are confusing to create.

If you own Hue this is for you!

This app is by far the best app for making scenes for your Hue lights. Dont hesitate to purchase it before the rest and you probably wont need the rest at all.

Its alright...

Good in that it lets you use multiple brands. Bad in that the UI/UX could have been done by Bulldogs

The best option for a while now

Ive been keeping an eye on this category - controllers for both LIFX and Hue - and LightBow is by far the best and has been for more than a year now.

Powerful but confusing interface.

I dont have anything constructive to suggest so far as improving the interface, but so far as sheer breadth of light automation/animation support, lightbow is basically king. Now if there were just some way to clean up the interface and make it easier to understand. Took a whole lot of tinkering to figure out how to create my own animations, and I still havent figured out how to end an animation with a light turning off and stopping the animation there. Just the same, if you are stubborn enough to learn the interface, you will be hard pressed to find a better app that crosses the light-platform divide. It supports just about everything! 4 stars simply because of the painful learning curve.

Sorry I dont get it!!!

Tried for ages to work this app out, but it is impossible to fathom it out! Looked online for user manuals, but nothing. It may be a powerful app as some reviewers say, but if you cant work it out, its a total waste of money ... zero stars from me.

Horribly designed = unusable app

Dont waste your money on this app. It is horribly confusing and almost impossible to use. Makes me question the validity of the positive reviews and recommendations.

Please fix app

This app is great when it runs Ive reinstalled over and over again and it doesnt work at all. Please fix this problem.... Or please refund my money back

Hands-down best hue effects app out there

Very powerful albeit confusing interface. Theres definitely a learning curve but once you get it you can make all kinds of magic :-)

You REALLY shouldn’t be reading this review...

Ever wonder why Lightbow’s App Store page usually says “not enough ratings to display an average”? That’s because each time a bug is fixed or a feature added, ratings and stars are reset. It’s crazy, but the more an app is updated, the more time App Store shoppers see a blank space in “Ratings and Reviews”. Potential users pass by and sales may dip, but it’s worth it. Every update adds something exciting or patches up something weak. Lightbow is the most full-featured, action-packed lighting control software on iOS, for the widest variety of lighting hardware. Before you scroll down your search results because you see a blank space instead of little stars, check out the screenshots, website, or email/facebook directly with the developer. Also, Reviews are Broken. Many reviews on the App Store are fake/paid, or from the developer’s circle of friends who may not even use the app. Many are actually tech support questions, with no way for the developer to contact the user to address his or her concern. Lightbow can’t always meet your exact feature requirements or troubleshoot your specific hardware/networking problem, but an email or ZenDesk will make sure theres a chance! Lightbow’s average time between updates is less than 20 days. If you support this “keep it fresh” development philosophy, consider leaving a star rating or review to help with the “blank space” problem. Thanks for reading!

Powerful but EXPENSIVE

Be prepared: if you want any presets other than the basic set, they all cost 2.99-3.99 EACH. You dont need the presets if youre willing to invest some serious time in making your own, but if youre thinking that because you spent $5 on the app you get everything you are very wrong. It will cost you >$50 in in-app purchases if you want all of the other presets. Had I known that I never would have paid for the app. VERY disappointing and off putting. Frankly, I want my $5 back.

Meh.

I dont have a dance hall, I have a house. This doesnt seem to do much more than the Philips app for the average home. Annoying: It defaults to the in-app purchase screen for scenes.

App functionality is stellar

The app is absolutely incredible for what it unlocks and allows you to accomplish with your lighting system. That said, the in-app purchases are FAR too expensive, and each contains less than Id wish. I hope at some point the developers drop the prices to $0.99 per purchase and add an all-in-one purchase for a few dollars. Because the purchases feel like a classic nickel and dime situation, Im forced to give three stars to an app that otherwise deserves 5.

Great investment!

It can be a bit scary to download an app for $5 (for some reason...) but this was worth it! This really put my LIFX bulb to good use since the official app doesnt give you much flexibility. The only thing about this app is that sometimes the presets can be a bit unreliable in the notification center. I emailed the developers and they said theyre working on a fix, if and when thats fixed, 5 star rating all around!

Doesnt work properly with mixed lights

The app wont allow you to set scheduled lighting changes if you have a mix of colored and white light bulbs. It seems that the app attempts to set a saturation value for your white bulbs (which have a fixed saturation, not a variable one). This causes the bridge to return an error code and reject the schedule. I contacted the developer about this and received no response.

Great App! Lots of options

The app has a learning curve, but well worth the effort. When its all said and done you can do just about anything you want with your Phillips bulbs. Takes quite a bit of thinking but lots of options open to you if you make the effort to learn it. Maybe at some point someone will do a good manual to go along with it. I would rather pay extra to see even more features added, rather than just have the option to buy scenes. The programmer has done an excellent job writing this app. Its the best and most flexible Ive been able to find in the app store.

Dont waste your money

I already had the Hue app by Phillips but I wanted to try something so I went ahead and paid 4.99. It doesnt do anything that the other app cant do, unless you pay more money for other "Presets". I want my money back

Awesome!!!

The best app for controlling your Hue bulbs. Buy this app now.

Dont bother

I WANT MY $4.99 BACK BUT APPLE WILL NOT REFUND ME. So I thought Id pay the $4.99 because I like when people create apps for the hue system. $4.99 is a lot of money for a light app but I decided to pay and try anyway. Once you buy and install, you are greeted with a menu of further purchase options! Uh, greedy much?!?!?! Such as: Fireworks $3.99 Sadness (blue) $2.99 Halloween $3.99 Angry (Red) $2.99 They let you try out the paid features but then they stop allowing you to try them out after testing 3 of them! Do you really need these blinking annoying programmed lights? After about two minutes of it Im about ready to turn all the lights to solid white! Try OnSwitch instead.

Animations wont work unless the app is open

Nice light scheming capabilities, but the only reason I really got this app was to wake me up in the morning with a pulsing light and as far as I know, the app wont let me do that. Not sure if its a problem with Apple, Hue, or the app...
